Champions league loss

Filed under: Match Results on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 by admin | No Comments

I’ve just about been able to face posting this blog today… A week ago tomorrow but still feels like it happend yesterday…

Commenting on the Champions League Final Sir Alex Ferguson said; “The better team won tonight, it was disappointing, we expected better, but you have to give credit to Barcelona. If they get in front of you, they’re very difficult to beat.”

Rio hands it to BarcelonaEven Rio Ferdinand handed all the applause to Barcelona saying; “You’ve got give credit to Barcelona.” “On a day like this you need to be able to play your best football and we didn’t do that. … No excuses. On today’s performance, they were the better team.”

There’s always next season and we’re still Premier League Champions!

Don’t write off United’s Champions League yet

Filed under: Match Results on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 by admin | No Comments

“It is a fool’s errand to go around writing United off. History is littered with those daft enough to make that particular mistake.” From Phil McNulty’s Blog at the BBC

Sir Alex FergusonSir Alex Ferguson blames our weak defence for last night’s dramatic 2 - 2 draw with Porto in the Champions League. He said:

“I think it exemplifies the fragile nature of our defence at the moment.”

”I think we showed tiredness tonight because the gamble I took about playing on Sunday and then Tuesday was not the best preparation for a European tie.”

WATCH - Ferguson talking after the Manchester United v FC Porto game

Now we have a task ahead of us but don’t EVER write off United until the final whistle plenty of teams can tell you that, just look at the number of games we’ve won inside the last 5 minutes.

It will be hard at Porto and we’ll have to be the first English team to win there but you can’t hide at this stage of the Champions League - that’s what football is all about…

Now Beckham defends Rooney

now beckham defends rooneyNow Beckham defends Rooney

See? I was right! Now even David Beckham has defended Wayne Rooney’s actions in the Manchester United game at Fulham last weekend.

Beckham said: “You don’t get the great player that he is without the temperament and his attitude. Taking that away from a player is dangerous, it changes him.”

“I don’t think anyone will try and do that with Wayne, I don’t think that’s an issue,” he added.

“He is passionate about the game, he is passionate about winning. When things aren’t going his way he’s like every other player that wants to win; he shows his frustration.”

“Sometimes it’s too much, it’s been too much with me in the past, but he’s got enough people around him that protect him. He’s got two managers that will look after him and know how to get the best out of him, and they do that.”

Should Rooney calm down?

Filed under: Players on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 by admin | No Comments

should wayne rooney calm down?Should Rooney calm down?

There is the argument that Wayne Rooney plays his football with passion and that when this passion for winning gets too much he boils over into a fury. I think I’d be the same if I had as much passion for football as Rooney does.

Rooney, quite obviously gets very upset when things don’t go his way on the pitch - personally I think the media make such a big thing about his temper that it’s these stories and hype that sometimes get him in trouble on the pitch.

If you think about it, the more newspapers and TV programs bang on about how bad tempered and out of control Rooney is, the more people start believing it. And I think this is a bad thing for the referees because they over react to situations along with other players complaining about each other’s conduct. Just get on with the football - like Rooney - that’s all he’s interested in doing…

Sir Alex Ferguson has commented on the whole Rooney incident from the game at Fulham: “The ball was thrown to where the free-kick was being taken - did it hit the referee? No.”

“But there’s no point talking about the referee - we didn’t play well enough in the first half and that’s why we lost.”

“It’s disappointing we didn’t meet the challenge. If you lose games in March and April it can cost you. Fortunately we have a slender lead at the moment but not a lot and I’m hoping we come back from the internationals back to our best.”

Vidic suspended adds to our pain…

vidic red cardVidic suspended to add to the pain

Nemanja Vidic has been suspended for two matches after his red card at Old Trafford on Saturday.

This adds more pain to the 4 - 1 defeat but we really need to use this result as a wake up call and to get back on track ASAP. I say ‘back on track ASAP’ but we’re still top with a game in hand and 4 points clear.

Lets just pray this is the last league defeat of the season and we don’t let another result slip away…

Even Jose Mourinho says United can go all the way!

Even Jose Mourinho says we’re going all the way!

Can’t believe me ears! Watch Jose Mourinho on Manchester United’s chances of winning the quintuple this season.

“They have experience, quality, great physical condition and intensity in their game.

“That’s why they’re European champions. That is why they can win everything. I think they can win five trophies.”

“They have basically the same team as when I was at Chelsea. Only Dimitar Berbatov is new.

“United are a quality team and showed against us exactly why they are European champions. You have to say they deserved to win.”

We finished off Inter-Milan at Old trafford following the goaless draw at the San Sero last week - Mourinho commented;

“We played a great match against a great team. We just lacked that little bit of luck you need to win, that little thing that makes that difference between winning and not winning.

“We went one down after a couple of minutes but we had three chances to score in the first half, more than our opponents, and we hit the bar from three metres out.

“In the second half we lost another goal but we continued to play and we showed great character.”

Scholes keeps it real for United’s Champions League Inter Milan match

Paul Scholes keeps it real for UnitedScholes keeps it real for United’s Champions League Inter Milan match

Paul Scholes has been speaking about the last time United were dumped out of the Champions League after a 0 - 0 draw away from home was followed by a defeat at Old Trafford.

“It probably was the perfect way to play a home leg after a goalless draw,” he said.

“We did well to get the draw in the first place because Barcelona is such a tough place to go.”

“Then we defended really well and got the goal at home, which in a European tie was ideal. We will take that again on Wednesday.”

So hopefully as Scholes was left out of the 4 - 0 FA cup win at Fulham it means he’s in the starting line up for Wednesday’s Champions league against Inter Milan.

“It would be good but whoever scores does not really matter as long as we get through. Any win against a tough team like Inter would be great for us.

“We had a great night in Moscow and we want to experience that feeling again. But last year is gone now.

“It was great when it happened. But this is a new year and we want to win it again.”

Spurs 0 - 0 Manchester United

No result at Tottenham for United

This weekend saw an unusual turn of events with United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all failing to take maximum points with a win.

Infact the Tottenham 0 - 0 Manchester United result was flattering considering the first half Tottenham had the majority of the breakthroughs…
